Pu Luong Private Retreat
Three days among terraced valleys, working villages and forested hills — with time to walk, slow down and experience rural life at your own pace.
A closer look
at the journey.
Pu Luong rewards time spent noticing: the paths between fields, the water that feeds them and the daily routines of village life. Three days allow the journey from Hanoi to be part of a gradual change of pace, with time to settle in before a full day outdoors. Walking connects the landscape with the people who work it, while your guide helps you understand what you see without intruding on private lives. There is room for a long lunch, an afternoon rest and an evening without another transfer ahead. Two nights make that rhythm possible. The programme suits travellers who value local context and comfortable pauses, with walking shaped around their interests and energy.
Leave Hanoi behind and settle into the valley.
Follow field paths and village lanes at your pace.
Understand the water wheels that irrigate rice fields.
Take to the water by bamboo raft, conditions permitting.
Let dinner and a quiet evening become part of the stay.
Journey overview
Suggested flow for three days and two nights. Final timings, walking routes, meals and accommodation are confirmed in your personal proposal. Weather, trail conditions and local operations may change the sequence or activities.
Hanoi → Pu Luong: a change of rhythm
Leave Hanoi in your private vehicle and travel into rural Thanh Hoa. A lunch pause gives you time to arrive before a gentle orientation walk through nearby countryside or village lanes, chosen around your energy after the journey. Settle into the selected accommodation with space to unpack, rest and enjoy dinner. The first evening belongs to the valley, with no further destination to reach.
Meals: Suggested: lunch and dinner; included meals confirmed in your proposal.
Overnight: Pu Luong; property and room confirmed in your proposal.
Pu Luong: landscape and village life
After breakfast, explore terraced landscapes and village areas with your guide, adjusting the walking to your pace. Where practical, observe traditional water wheels and how they lift water for irrigation. Pause for a local lunch, then experience the waterways by bamboo raft where river conditions and local operations allow. Return with time to rest before dinner. Village encounters follow local routines and consent; entering homes or sharing a family meal is never assumed.
Meals: Suggested: breakfast, lunch and dinner; included meals confirmed in your proposal.
Overnight: Pu Luong; property and room confirmed in your proposal.
Pu Luong → Hanoi: time for a last look
Begin with breakfast and a short walk, village visit or landscape stop selected for your interests and the conditions that morning. Leave space to pack and enjoy the setting before your private transfer back to Hanoi. Departure and return arrangements are agreed around the final programme; any onward connection should be discussed before the journey is confirmed.
Meals: Suggested: breakfast; any additional meal arrangements confirmed in your proposal.
Accommodation
Stay for two nights in a carefully selected Pu Luong property chosen around comfort, setting and your journey brief. The stay should give you a place to settle between walks, with time for dinner and a slower evening rather than another transfer.
Your proposal confirms the property, room category, meal arrangements and specific facilities. Tell us which comforts matter to you; a private bathroom, view, pool or spa is not promised unless explicitly confirmed.
Meals follow the retreat's quieter rhythm: simple local food, well-chosen settings and time to sit together. A family or village meal may be proposed when hosts are willing and arrangements are available. Venues, included meals and dietary requirements are confirmed in your proposal; no family visit or particular menu is guaranteed.
The journey, quietly coordinated
A private vehicle connects Hanoi with Pu Luong and the agreed local visits. Your guide brings context to the landscape, with local guiding support where the programme calls for it. There is no shared departure; collection, return and guide arrangements are confirmed for your travelling party.
Room to choose your pace
Walks, rest stops and time outside are planned together. Local knowledge helps shape practical adjustments to the day, while accommodation and activity coordination reduce the arrangements you need to make yourself. A slower afternoon can be as valuable as another visit.
- Slower pace — Shorten walks and leave more time to rest, with visits arranged around the rhythm you enjoy.
- More walking — Discuss longer countryside walks; the route and effort are agreed around fitness, weather and trail conditions.
- More village life — Give more time to understanding farming and local routines. Any hosted visit depends on willing hosts and advance agreement.
- Photography focus — Allow time for light, landscape and careful observation; ask permission before photographing people or entering homes.
- Family pacing — Share children's ages and interests so walks, breaks, meals and room arrangements can be considered together.
- An extra night — Extend the retreat to leave more space between outings, subject to accommodation and guiding availability in your proposal.
- Private transport from Hanoi to Pu Luong and back, with local movements agreed in the programme.
- Guiding, local activity coordination and planning support for your travelling party.
- Two nights in selected accommodation, with the property and room category confirmed in your proposal.
- Meals, entrance fees and activity fees itemised as included in your proposal.
- Bamboo rafting only when confirmed, subject to river conditions and local operations.
The exact inclusions are itemised in your personal proposal. Accommodation, room category, meal venues, vehicle arrangements and local activities are confirmed for your dates. Timings and routes may be adjusted where practical. An enquiry does not confirm a booking.
- Personal purchases and other personal expenses.
- Additional meals and drinks outside the agreed inclusions.
- Gratuities.
- Travel insurance.
- Services not listed in your final proposal.
Light to moderate, adapted to the guest. Routes and time on foot are agreed around fitness, weather, trail conditions and how much time you want outdoors. Uneven or wet ground may affect suitability; please discuss practical access needs before confirming.
Traditional water wheels lift water from streams to irrigate rice fields. Where access allows, your guide connects their practical purpose with farming and village routines, including the area's Thai communities. These are working places; household visits, weaving encounters and photographs of people require local agreement.
A quiet way to experience the valley's waterways, where river conditions and local operations allow. It is conditional, not a guaranteed part of every departure. Any change to the agreed programme is discussed with you.
Share your Hanoi hotel or collection location, walking preferences and any practical access needs. Collection, return, guide language and suitable arrangements for children are confirmed individually. Terraced landscapes change with the farming season; no particular crop stage or weather is promised.
